MAYO CLASSICAL CONCERT
At the foot of Nephin Mountain, nestled in its protective shadow, lies the small village of Bofeenaun. This charming hamlet boasts breathtaking scenery in a peaceful rural setting. Bofeenaun is situated several miles from most of Mayo’s main towns: it is ten miles from Castlebar, twenty-two miles from Westport, eight miles from Crossmolina, seventeen miles from Ballina and twelve miles from Foxford.
In the month of July, for the past seven consecutive summers, this small village has come to life with the sound of classical music sweeping through its valleys. Some of the world’s most renowned musicians travel to this small village in the west of Ireland on an annual basis to give a classical concert in the local church. What started as a one-night-only event has now grown into a weekend-long festival with tickets in huge demand. This concert is a rare opportunity to hear highly acclaimed musicians play in a relaxed and informal setting.
The musicians, whose bios can be read on the ‘Musicians’ page, have played with such prestigious orchestras as the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The concert is organised by a committee of Bofeenaun locals and tickets for this special event can be ordered through Bofeenaun Post Office on +353 96 51006. |
